What is Psychical Research?
Psychical research is essentially the scientific investigation of psychic or paranormal phenomena that challenge known natural laws, focusing on abilities like telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition (ESP), and psychokinesis (mind over matter), as well as alleged survival after death, through controlled experiments and studies of spontaneous experiences like hauntings. The term Psychical Research has largely been replaced by the term Parapsychology, but we continue to use the original term, as does the world famous and original Society for Psychical Research (SPR) who were founded in 1882! There is ongoing discussion regarding whether we should change from Psychical to Parapsychological, but for the moment we are sticking with the former, in honour of tradition and the great scientists, philosophers and researchers who went before us.
